    New Albums in 2008 Update

I thought I should follow up on my album release list from February with updated dates and a few words about the stuff that is already out.  So far, the albums that are ruling my playlist are ones that weren’t even on the last list…  so how about a top 3 since everybody loves lists.

Band of Horses - Cease to Begin Nada Surf - Lucky Mudcrutch - Mudcrutch

Yes, Nada Surf – you read that right.  I hated them in the 90s (I’m popuuuuuular!), but this album sounds like a totally different band.  Then again maybe I just haven’t been schooled on the Nada Surf back catalog.  Band of Horses is new and they have a great sound.  And Mudcrutch is Tom Petty’s band before the Heartbreakers, reunited for this album.  It sounds like all the Tom Petty hits you already know…  which by my standards is a good thing.

Anyway, the big list of releases is after the jump:

    Already released

Drive-By Truckers - Brighter Than Creation’s Dark A best ever from them
Jack Johnson - Sleep Through the Static C ultimately forgettable
The Black Crowes - Warpaint C+ just average
Flogging Molly - Float B less whiny, more folky… i like that
Van Morrison - Keep It Simple C- i’ll stick to his classics
Feeder - Picture of Perfect Youth [b-sides] I don’t like Feeder enough to listen to B-sides
Counting Crows - Saturday Nights and Sunday Mornings B+ surprisingly good
    R.E.M. - Accelerate A- best in a long time
Colin Meloy - Colin Meloy Sings Live! C+ Sounds better with the full band of Decemberists
Supergrass - Diamond Hoo Ha C the single is catchy at least
The Kooks - Konk C+ nowhere close to the last one
Blind Melon - For My Friends D meh
Flight of the Conchords - Flight of the Conchords A+ because I’m a fanboy
Delays - Everything’s the Rush somehow I missed the album, but I like the singles
The Lemonheads - It’s a Shame About Ray (reissue) boo on reissues, great album though
Filter - Anthems for the Damned single kinda sucks, haven’t tried the album yet
Local H - 12 Angry Months haven’t listened to it yet
Death Cab for Cutie - Narrow Stairs B i will possess your 8 minute single
The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely B big improvement over the last one which says a lot
Athlete - Beyond the Neighbourhood B+ just put Hurricane and Tokyo on repeat
