Kevin Kernan is a Baseball Expert
The Phillies completed a four game sweep of the Mets yesterday in exciting fashion, shortening the Mets lead in the NL East to just 2 games. That’s a good place for the Phillies to be sitting as we roll into September, especially with the wild card race being as tight as it is.
Of course, if you follow the Phillies, or baseball for that matter, you already know all this and are probably wondering why I’m posting. Well, I’m posting to tell you that you should ALWAYS listen to the expert advice doled out by Kevin Kernan in his column for the New York Post. The man is clearly a genius. On Sunday, he wrote that “the Mets are merrily on their way to another October” and that the NL East “really wasn’t much of a race.”
He goes on to tell us how fantastic some of the individual Mets players have been. “Orlando Hernandez continued his magic”, he says. Is that what he was doing in yesterday’s 11-10 loss, when he pitched 3 innings and gave up 5 runs? “At this rate, Reyes is likely to have the most steals since 1988,” he continues. I’m sorry, but I sure didn’t get that feeling when he was picked off twice on Wednesday.
Kernan wraps up this whole thing with this one-liner: “Considering the talent disparity in the division, it never really mattered.” From where I’m sitting, the Mets don’t seem so high and mighty. In fact, the Phillies are now sporting a 9-6 record against the Mets this season. You’d think someone who has been a sports writer for so long would know that in sports, anything can happen, and making outrageous predictions does nothing but make you look like a moron.
I hope you enjoy eating crow over this Labor Day weekend… and hey, good luck with the Braves… you guys need it!
