    The 300

    The 300If you saw 300 this weekend (seems like everyone did) and you’re like me, you went into it not knowing anything about the story aside from it just being a huge bloodbath.  Well, they didn’t disappoint on that aspect, but brushing up on Greek history makes it just a bit more meaningful.  Sitting in the theater on Friday night, I had no idea that the film I was watching was based on an actual historical event, called the Battle of Thermopylae (which translates to…  “Hot Gates”).  Reading through this Wikipedia article you can pick up a lot of things from the movies that are factual…  right down to some of the dialog – “So much the better, we shall fight in the shade” is the motto for the modern day Greek 20th Armored Division.
