    Old Number 9 Ale

I’m making this recipe tomorrow.  I adapted the recipe from the book Clone Brews by Tess Szamatulski.  What happened was, I bought the ingredients to do their all-grain version of the recipe, then I had 2 bad all-grain batches in a row.  Also, my propane burner broke, so even if I wanted to take a chance with it, I couldn’t.

The crushed grain has been sitting in a sealed bag in my basement for months now, so I’m a bit worried.  I think everything will turn out, although I don’t know how much of a clone recipe it’s really going to be.

I tasted this beer at bottling and it was awesome! My only gripe was that even with all 2 ounces of apricot extract, I could barely taste it. I’d rather have too little than too much though, I think the real #9 has a bit too much apricot flavor.

This weekend will be two weeks in the bottle, so I look forward to trying a fully carbed version. I might not make it that long though, I’m running out of commercial brews!

It’s been in the bottle for like 3 weeks now, and I am afraid it actually tastes worse at this point. I don’t know if there was a problem with my bottle sanitation, but this beer might have to be dumped. There’s just some slight off flavor which ruins it.

I don’t think I will make this same recipe again.
